Snowflake Festival & Parade of Lights

Welcome to the North Pole

The Downtown Business Association’s Snowflake Festival returns to Elko, Saturday, December 9, 2017. The festivities begin at 12pm in the heart of Downtown Elko. This year’s event includes Santa’s Workshop, the Cocoa Cottage, a live ice sculpture creation, food, live entertainment, and more.

The festival takes place in the Downtown parking corridor between 5th and 6th Streets. Commercial Street and Railroad Street will be closed to vehicle traffic.

Here is just a taste of the activities happening downtown:

Vendors and entertainment: Live entertainment featuring the EHS Choraliers and more will be performing between 1p.m. and 5 p.m and more to come all while you shop. Vendors will have all sorts of food, activities for the kids, and items to help you finish your Christmas shopping.

Parade of Lights: Businesses will show off their hard work at the annual Parade of Lights, which begins at 5:00 p.m. on Commercial Street.

Santa’s Workshop: The Elko Parks & Recreation Department welcomes Santa as he makes his annual appearance at Santa’s Workshop inside the Western Folklife Center. Children of all ages will enjoy games, crafts and pictures with Santa himself from 12-5pm.

Home Depot  Santas lil’ Helpers crafting Workshop: Join our hands-on workshop just off 5th and Idaho Street. You and your child can build a cute  Holiday Tree Picture frame or design a ginger bread house. All kids get to keep their project and a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.

Ice sculptures: Ice is Nice will return with another ice sculpture. Visitors can watch as the sculpture takes shape.

Cocoa Cottage: The DBA Cocoa Cottage,  will be selling naughty and nice hot cocoa at its booth throughout the day. “Naughty” cocoa, for those 21 years and older, is $5 each. “Nice” cocoa is the traditional hot chocolate for $2. A special collectors cup will be available for $10.

Don’t forget to visit the stores and restaurants in Downtown Elko. Many will be offering specials and discounts during the event.

Bring the family down for some fun, food, and festivities and help support your local merchants. The festival is free to attend, but individual booths may charge for activities or food.

Parade Tips

Here are some tips to make watching the Parade of Lights a bit more enjoyable:

– Dress warmly. Temperatures can range from a mild 50 degrees F down to a chilly 20 degrees. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and get cozy for a spectacular show!

– There will be food booths in the downtown business district offering hot drinks and snack items to help keep you warm!

– If you have small children you’ll want to plan on being downtown about one hour before the parade starts for pre-parade entertainment.

The parade lasts about 45 minutes and will not be canceled unless there are extreme weather conditions. Check this site for any cancellation notice.

Make a Day of It! Come early and shop for your holiday gifts.
