ELKO — The Best Western Elko Inn has taken a step towards increased customer care with the recent purchase of clean remotes. The units have a smooth surface all the way around and lacks cracks and crevices around the buttons where germs may exist. The remotes can be completely sanitized by the Best Western housekeepers and, according to a Best Western press release, gives the guests the satisfaction of knowing that they or their children can pick up a TV remote without having to worry about germs on the remote from previous guests.

Guest surveys have indicated the TV remote as the single highest concern among guests for the possibility of passing on germs from guest to guest. The clean remote has been tested to be 99 percent cleaner than standard remotes and will help reduce germs, viruses and bodily fluids often found on remote controls.

Best Western has endorsed the clean remote. The worlds largest hotel chain, with over 4,000 hotels worldwide, is suggesting to its franchises to use the clean remote in their guest rooms.

Troy Rutman, a spokesman for Best Western, said Best Western is working to boost cleanliness in its rooms.

“We know that this is considered one of the dirtiest items in a room and we are looking for ways to reduce that,” Rutman said.

“We saw the video about guest concerns with current TV remote controls and realized that we needed to bring the clean remotes to our property to help allay our guest’s concerns about these units. They are a new industry standard and our owners were quick to embrace these units,” reported Myron Pree, general manager of the Elko Best Western.

“They are easy to use, compact and come with their own little holders,” said Carl Brannon, assistant general manager of the Elko Best Western.

The Elko Best Western team encourages individuals to stop by the hotel and see one of the remotes displayed at the front desk.

“Be sure to check your next hotel destination to see if they have adopted clean remotes. You can be sure that the next Best Western will either have the remote or be in the process of acquiring them,” Pree said.
