About Nevada Outdoor School
Our History
Nevada Outdoor School (NOS) was founded in 2002 by Stephanie Lefevre in Winnemucca to establish an outdoor education program throughout rural Nevada that would connect students of all ages with the natural world. NOS now serves as many as 1,000 students per month through a variety of community outreach programs, on-site education in classrooms, field trips, volunteer stewardship, and summer camps. In 2016, we expanded into Elko County and now serve Elko, Spring Creek, and local rural surrounding areas. We are providing numerous opportunities for youth along with the community.
Every August, NOS hosts the Buckaroo Dutch Oven Cook-Off! Friendly competitive cooking, public tasting, games, raffles, music, and great friends make this annual fundraiser an event not to be missed. In Elko, we will be hosting a variety of fundraiser events that we invite anyone and everyone to come to be involved with. All events are sure to be a great time!

The Vision of Nevada Outdoor School
At Nevada Outdoor School, we envision a world where all people have the opportunity to learn and grow outdoors and choose to do so. Our youth will have the desire and skills to become engaged and active citizens. We will help motivate the next generation of leaders, scientists, and great thinkers. We will not hide from our need to use or from our responsibility to respect and conserve the Earth’s natural resources. In the society we see, no child born will be the last to be inspired by the natural world.
